Underworld: Factory Raid

The idea for this battle was that Hegarty's Black Katz had six rounds to break into the secure factory, grab the magic poker chip of fortune that the Wyrd sisters were guarding, and escape with it.

The Wyrd sisters had the entrances to the factory site guarded and had everybody else just milling about. We decided that they must have been expecting Hegarty to make a play for the magic poker chip and were lying in wait, otherwise they would have all been in the canteen.

All the Black Katz piled into the back of their van and smashed straight through one of the checkpoints. Fortunately the constable on duty managed to jump out the way and sustained only minor injuries.

The Black Katz all piled out and started beating up the policeman.

Meanwhile the Katz' fully carpeted Capri rammed the main entrance. Again the policeman on guard duty managed to dive out of harm's way...

...but the car ploughed on through the dog handler and his dogs. The dogs managed to get out the way, but the handler was not so lucky.

It turned out, however, that the Capri was empty, and was actually being remotely controlled by Baggie over the other side of the factory. The vehicles had just been diversions, while the big guns tried to get through the gate round the back.

Hegarty used her magic on the guard, and let Slim Jim and one of the Black Katz through while Baggie was left behind controlling his remote control Capri.

One of the Wyrd sisters cast a spell to dominate Baggie, and another used her wand of confusion to confuse a couple of the Katz. Then the police and the dogs piled in taking advantage of the confusion to smack some of the Katz about.

The last sister summoned an imp to attack Slim Jim.

The van kept going, knocking over, and killing, another policeman and narrowly missing one of the sisters. (To be fair it's hard to tell the sisters apart sometimes. We know them as the feisty one, the hot one, and the girl next door one. But, as they're only 28mm high sometimes it's not always that obvious how hot or feisty each one is.)

In response to the imp summoning, Hegarty summoned a proper demon. It attacked one of the sisters from behind, but she survived. Meanwhile Slim Jim took out the policeman guarding her and...

...heroically surged into the factory and up the stairs towards the magic poker chip.

The police managed to take out the demon...

...and they tried to arrest Jim but he wasn't coming quietly.

Hegarty managed to kill one of the sisters with her witchfire

And the van kept going, narrowly missing another of the sisters.

Meanwhile, Jim had grabbed the poker chip and to make a quick getaway jumped through the factory window and landed on top of the Katz' van.

The van drove off and crashed through the factory fencing. it was a right-off and the driver died (this is the '70s, no one wore a seat belt back then), but it gave Jim the chance to run off with his prize, winning the game.

Victory for Hegarty and her Black Katz.

TWITCH: Checkpoint

I decided TWITCH needed to beef up the security around their base if they are to do any serious world domination so I built a couple of checkpoints and some wire fences.

B7: Hostage (Part Two)

Blake's crew and some local resistance fighters have broken into a Federation base in an attempt to blow it up and rescue Professor Arkan, who may have knowledge of the location of Star One.

However the Liberator crew have walked into an ambush. They fight back but Gan is cut down by a mutoid.

After a brief struggle the crew exact their revenge. Surely nothing can now stand between Blake and Professor Arkan...

...except Travis. And his elite squad of mutoids. And Servalan.

As the crew pile into the headberry purification plant, Vila manages to slip past them almost unnoticed.

There follows a massed gunfight between just about everybody.

Travis finally manages to get his revenge on his deadly enemy, by shooting Blake with his Laseron Destroyer.

A mutoid spots Vila but misses him.

One of the Prydan People's Front finally remembers the victory conditions and goes off to sabotage the power plant.

Meanwhile Vila sneaks up the stairs and deals with the last line of defence to the interrogation suite.

One of the mutoids is killed, and Servalan orders the rest of Travis' mutoids to watch her back as she flees the scene...

...leaving Travis all alone against the remaining crew and resistance fighters. Cally gets the honour of finishing him off.

Vila deals with one of the mutoids, but the other is able to delay him long enough for...

...Servalan to flee on her own, entirely defeated.

With a blown up Federation base, a liberated professor, and two captured scientists, the result is a total victory for the rebels, but is it a Pyrrhic one? With Blake dead and Servalan free, who can now stop her assuming the presidency and ruling the known galaxy?

B7: Hostage (Part One)

Here's a Blake's 7 battle report which we played with the semi-official Blake's 7 7TV rules from Crooked Dice. The idea was that Professor Arkan was being held in a federation secure facility on the red planet, Prydan Minor. He was being interrogated by Servalan for information about Star One. Meanwhile Travis, sure that Blake might want to rescue Arkan, had brought some mutoids in as an extra defence. The local Prydan resistance had agreed to work with Blake to help him break into the Federation base.

There were two Victory Points up for grabs for rescuing Arkan and two for getting to the power plant and blowing that up. We also drew the event card with the extra Victory Point scientists, so put them in the interrogation room.

The red planet of Prydan is home to the famous mercury swamps of exploding headberries.

The top secret Federation research station is located under the surface of Prydan. The research is primarily involved in turning the headberries into a nutritional food supplement, but also includes top of the range torture facilities.

The eight members of the Prydan People's Front await the word from the Liberator that the attack should proceed. Unfortunately, when ordering their lo-vis combat fatigues, they forgot to mention they inhabited a bright red planet.

Federation troopers patrol around the entrance to the base.

And they have the inside guarded, too.

Meanwhile, in the plant room, Travis has a nasty surprise waiting in the shape of his mutoids. (We've souped the mutoids up a bit from the Crooked Dice stats. They now have 4 Str, 4 Def, Carbine 3+ and Fanatic. Coz that's closer to how they were done in the show, imo. For all those bonuses, however, they now cost 20 Ratings.)

Servalan, interrogating Professor Arkan, is informed that an unknown vessel has been detected in geostationary orbit above the facility.

Vila and Cally, down and safe, but slightly off target. They now need to cross the mercury swamp to reach the base. And Vila is the only one who can open the security doors (Although Orac could do it, too, they didn't bother telling Vila.)

Blake and the rest, down and safe, during one of Prydan's famous linear eclipses.

The Prydan People's Front charge in...

...taking out a number of the Federation troopers.

Blake's crew are a bit more circumspect.

Travis gives the order for most of the Federation troopers to withdraw inside the base.

The rest of the troopers put up a fight. They are heavily outnumbered...

...but they manage to kill a couple of the resistance before being overrun.

Cally and Vila get trapped in the mercury swamp. A couple of the berries explode, injuring Cally. "Careful, Cally. I'm allergic to explosions."

And Blake makes it to the entrance, "Avon, you lead the way."
"I'm not stupid, I'm not expendable, and I'm not going!"

Blake's crew pile into the base to discover that the Feds are lying in wait.

Vila and Cally eventually make it to the entrance. "Cally, wait for me, Cally! Where is everyone?"

"You see, Servalan. Blake will rescue me."
"You fool, Arkan. Don't you see? Blake has fallen into my trap! All that bad rolling in the first couple of turns was simply to lure him into a false sense of security. As soon as he gets into the base, he will be surrounded. And then I will start rolling sixes!"

To be continued...
