Spaceships (Part One)

I decided to build a couple of small crappy spaceships for my crappy Blake's 7 style federation base terrain. I couldn't find any suitable hairdryers, so went with these old mini Dalek remote controllers. These won't be anything like pursuits ships, but there were any number of small planet hoppers and orbital craft used in the show, which these should work well enough for.

I used the same bits and pieces for the ship as I did for the rest of the base to keep a homogenous design aesthetic (but mainly coz they were handy).

I'm happy enough so far. They seem to fit into the Blake's 7 look quite nicely. They're almost finished, but I think I might add some sort of cockpit type bulge at the top of the nose to give the crew somewhere plausible to sit if I can find the right bit.

Door Molds

So, I decided to make a few more bits of my crappy Blake's 7 style federation base terrain. One of the themes is the consistent door pieces, so I needed to cast a few more of these. I've not really done any molding or casting except this door.

I made a bunch of molds of the door using some Japanese plastic clay stuff. You just heat it in boiling water and then you can press a shape into it. So I made this styrene press tool thingy.

I started this a couple of years ago, and so was happy to dig the stuff out of the back of the cupboard to find the resin and molds all seemed to still be in excellent condition.

Simply mix the two-part resin together and...

...pour into the molds. You can get an adult to help you with this, if you like.

It's supposed to take about 24 hrs to dry, but I found it needs a bit longer than this. So, hopefully, in a couple of days I will have a bunch more doors to add to my scenery.

I believe this is exactly how the BBC did it in 1978, too.

Chariot of the God

I made a True Cross battle standard for my crusaders. If they won't lay down their lives for a couple of bits of wood painted gold, then what would they lay down their lives for?

I've made all my other stands modular in this army, so I can  reuse the figures for whatever other games I might play. Fair enough, but I have no idea why I bothered to make this one modular. It's not like I might need the oxen to help make up a bigger unit of hearthguard oxen in Saga, or use the cross in an unit of expert yeomen crosses in Lion Rampant.

Crusader Army

Here's the crusader army to take on my arabs, with their Deus Vult stats.

The skirmishing division is just a couple of archer units, some of which I stole from my Dark Ages stuff coz I don't have enough archers to go round, yet. Fireforge hae just brought out some resin ones which I might get, and I've also got a few sprues of Perry HYW archers which I will use for the bow arms and stick on some Fireforge and other random bodies.

I'm using these as the High Lord's Battaile. They're all pretty much Fireforge plastics as they come off the sprue.

I used some regular troops for proxy generals and the standard bearer while I work out which figures I'm gonna get.
