More ECW

Have hardly painted a thing over the last couple of months. I finally finished a regiment of shot and a couple of cannon. Hopefully the bug will bite again, soon.

I picked up The Kingdom is Ours (and some more figures) at Devises Attack the other day. So I now have three sets of ECW rules that I'm looking forward to trying.

Pike and Shot

Finally finished a regiment of pike and shot. I'm finding painting these guys a bit heavy going, though I am generally pleased with the finish. It could be a while before I have a big battle ready to go. As a fan of Lion Rampant I picked up Pikeman's Lament, which will be perfect for playing skirmishes in the meantime. I already have enough figures to make a decent variety of Lament companies.

Firelock Storming Party

I did this Firelock Storming Party from Warlord Games for Pike and Shotte. The two metal figures were very nice, but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of range of poses from the plastic. There is a single plastic pose with a choice between two pairs of arms. I found mixing these with the various (and also quite limited) poses in the Infantry Regiment set I could get a decent range of poses in the end. Though this was a bit fiddly as they are not designed to go together so I had to do a bit of cutting and filling.

Pike & Shotte test

After procrastinating for a good 6 months, I've decided to start a long-term English Civil War project, using Pike & Shotte. I think I want to do something with Hopton and Waller, and maybe have a decent stab at a historically accurate Battle of Lansdown (which is just down the road from me). I'm not used to bringing research and actual knowledge to my wargaming, so we'll see how that goes.

These are tests for some Royalist cavalry, and Hopton's regiment of foot. Warlord Games are having a third-off sale on their basic ECW Infantry and Cavalry regiments, so I now have enough plastic to keep me going for a long time.
